Fighting Jet Lag

I awake to the sound of thunder reverberating throughout the house....and Ray appears in the bedroom with a cup of coffee. "Are Annabelle and Seb up?" I ask. They are up! Annabelle thinks she woke up around 6:00/6:30 and that Seb probably woke up around 7:00 a.m. They have done well!
Around 10:45 we head out to "The Match" a restaurant in our local Casino. But it has other features: it has a stunning view of The Chief, a lovely outdoor verandah, and brunch specials on Sunday for $10.00. We say "hello" to the logger sports guy welcoming us as we enter the parking area. Seb is mesmorized by the replica of The Chief rising out of the water. We head upstairs and take our seats. Annabelle has two poached eggs with bacon and home fries; Seb has waffles, I have a salmon benedict, and Ray has a regular eggs benedict. All thoroughly enjoyed!
After brunch, we head down to Nexen Beach, now seemingly called Newport Beach. There is lots going on. The beach is busy with drift wood some of which seems to have been decoratively placed. The kite boarders are having a hard time in the water as the wind isn't strong enough to keep them racing across the surface on their boards. There are paddle boarders getting their exercise, and a couple of them take their dogs along with them for an airing! As Annabelle says, it looks as if everyone who is there has a dog, and the dogs are happily playing with each on the beach, bounding into the ocean after sticks tirelessly thrown by their owners. Even the wind surfers are out. And don't forget the jet ski and motorized rubber dingy that act as "safety vehicles" for the kite boarders.
The water is a beautiful shade of green and forms a moss coloured bed at the base of The Chief, and Shannon Falls.
We look for the "slack lines" and to our disappointment we realize they have been taken away. So we wander around and spend our time skipping pebbles over the top of the water....with a lot of difficulty I might add...first the stones just seem the wrong shape and size, and second we think maybe the gentle waves and swell of the ocean are absorbing the skips. But the challenge keeps us trying!!
We drive back along the ocean front marvel at the perfectly formed "log booms" that lie along the banks.
Then we head to AirHouse and check out the trampoline facilities, and the Ground Up Climbing Centre just opposite. Options for rainy days.
Next we introduce Annabelle and Seb to Walmart's!! Annabelle knows all about it from a TV show and immediately says she forgot her earings and needs to get some new ones. But first we select a couple of journals for each of them to record their memories.
When we arrive back at the house, Ray introduces Seb and Annabelle to the mountain bikes we have for them. Both seem satisfied that they are comfortable on the bikes notwithstanding the awe of having 21 or 15 gears instead of 3!! The kids are introduced to our neighbour Jarod and his little pooch "Ruffie". They fall in love and Jarod offers for them to take Ruffie for a walk any time!!
Around this time I am starting to think that we have hit the "witching" hour, and jet-lag may make its appearance, so I am happy when Annabelle and Seb decide to have a session in the gym. They put us to shame. Pull ups? No problem!!! Unassisted!!! I put a P90X2 "Plyocide" video on the TV for Annabelle, and she dilligently follows it through the 60 minutes to the end. Seb reads his book.
Annabelle finishes; Ray has the BBQ on; the eyes seem a little shaky, and they slip though my surveillance and try to slide into slumber; but I am quick off the mark and wake them, and dinner is ready (hamburgers, salad, berries, and icecream).
After dinner, they sit quietly and read their books or play on their cell phone. They take a bath; Seb comes back down to lie a read....and fall asleep....till I wake him and he goes to bed. Annabelle goes up for a shower, and doesn't appear back down stairs!! Night night!!
