Bike Ride and Swim in Alice Lake
Tuesday, July 24, 2018
We had a relaxed morning. The kids were awake around 6:00 a.m. Ray got up around 8:15 and set up some muesli for their breakfast. Alanna arrived around 9:30 a.m. to pack for her trip to Halifax. At around 11:30 we left on a bike ride. It wasn't too far, maybe around 10k. The kids are strong bikers, so no problems handling the rocky surface of the trail, nor the residential roads around us. Then I suggested "ice cream" which was warmly approved. Unfortunately, the ice-cream shop was closed. We were all, especially Seb, astounded that an ice-cream shop would be closed on Tuesday! "What is special with Tuesday?" Seb asked. No idea. After a bike-hunt around the Garibaldi area for an ice cream, the ever resourceful Ray suggested the supermarket!! We purchased a box of 4 "caramel and pecan" chocolate-coated ices, and ate them outside the store, having parked our bikes and avoided the vicious "barks" of a terrified pooch. Then we sped home for lunch.
It has been, and was today, around 30+C, so hot!! The kids donned their swim suits, and we piled into the car and headed up to Alice Lake for swimming. The lake is set up for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and all things family.Unfortunately, it was also cold, and after Seb and Annabelle had a quick dip, and another dip for photos, they stood on the wooden decks wrapped in their towels and heated up in the sun. Annabelle loves to "paddle board" and so we found out the particulars of rentals with the promise of taking her back another day to paddle board.
On the way back in the car (probably about 15 minutes), we had some fun moments: Alanna is flying tonight to Halifax, and Ray had inquired whether Annabelle and Seb would like to drive to the City and back to drop her at the airport. Seb asked "Are we going in the convertible?" to which I replied "No, because we can't fit 5 in the convertible for a long journey." Annabelle said she didn't want to come because she might "fall asleep in the car"....which was very astute because it was a real possibility!! I suggested we could get a big balloon, attach it to Seb with a really strong rope, and we could "fly" him from the convertible and Annabelle added because then he couldn't fall asleep!!! Seb came up with the idea of finding a dragon, and we had him then flying with Alanna to Halifax. Of course all the ideas were much more visual and colourful!! But don't you love the imagination of "children". When do we adults loose that ability....or maybe we still have it, we just have to find ways of using it.
We got home after 4 and the children had some quiet time. Alanna and I left for the airport around 5:00 p.m.
When I came back around 8:30, dinner was over, Annabelle appeared from the shower, and we were watching the remaining part of the movie about Pelle, which Seb had sourced the previous night. Seb had departed for the shower before the end, and Annabelle chose to watch "Finding Dory." Ray and I are not TV, nor even movie, watchers. So, I have seen more TV/Netflix than I have done for a long time. Some of it is fascinating, and so creative. So, I guess that is where "adults" put their creative imagination!! I am absolutely in awe of all the productions and the people who create the ideas and the people who put those ideas into an animated movie. It brings colour, imagination, and feeling into the lives of the people who watch it!!
Ray was the first to bed tonight, followed by Seb, and followed by Annabelle. Now it is my turn.
